Where Is Lakeville Located?
Lakeville is one of the inland towns in the region known as Boston’s South Shore. Lakeville is part of Plymouth County, and all of Plymouth County is considered the South Shore. Homes for sale on the South Shore include both inland and coastal locations.
Lakeville is west of Middleboro and north of Freetown. Lakeville is about 20 miles from Plymouth, about 20 miles from New Bedford, about 35 miles from Providence, and about 40 miles from Boston.
What’s Lakeville Known For?
True to its name, Lakeville is known for its lakes. Actually their official names are “ponds.” The two largest are Long Pond and Assawompset Pond. Other large ponds are Great Quittacas Pond, Little Quitacas Pond, and Pocksha Pond.
akeville’s ponds provide drinking water to the city of New Bedford and recreational fishing and boating to Lakeville residents.
Lakeville’s ponds also provide many miles of shoreline where residential subdivisions and properties are located. Many homes feature waterfront settings with such amenities as deeded beach access and private docks.
One home in Lakeville is known for its elaborate display of holiday lights. The homeowners at 2 Furlong Circle in Lakeville are the creators of the Crazy Tech Christimas Animated Light Show. The holiday light show drew about 20,000 visitors in 2020. The 2021 display had about 78,000 lights synchronized with some 140 songs. Spectators view the holiday light extravaganza from their cars. What’s It Like to Live in Lakeville?
Lakeville offers a rural feel and community amenities that include three golf clubs, a new library, and a school system operated jointly with neighboring Freetown.
The Freetown-Lakeville Regional School District has two elementary schools for grades K–3, an intermediate school for grades 4–5, a middle school for grades 6–8, and a high school for grades 9–12. The school names are:

- George R. Austin Intermediate School
- Freetown Lakeville Middle School
- Apponequet Regional High School
Residents in Lakeville use Route 140, Route 105, Route 79 and Route 18 to get around town. Route 140 connects with Route 24 in Taunton and Interstate 195 in New Bedford.
Interstate 495 extends just outside Lakeville’s northern boundary with access from Route 44, Route 18, and Route 105. A short piece of Route 44 crosses Lakeville’s northernmost tip.
Lakeville residents can get to Boston on the MBTA commuter rail. The Middleborough/Lakeville line goes to South Station. The last stop from South Station is the Middleborough/Lakeville station located at 125 Commercial Drive in Lakeville. Stops along the way to South Station include Bridgewater, Brockton, Braintree, and Quincy Center.
