Where Is Wareham Located?
Wareham is part of Plymouth County, but geographically speaking this community is considered part of the Massachusetts South Coast. That’s because Wareham borders Buzzards Bay, which extends along the south coast of Massachusetts and connects with the Cape Cod Canal.
Wareham is located about 55 miles from Boston, about 17 miles from Providence, and about 16 miles from Plymouth.
Wareham’s South Coast location puts it within close proximity to Cape Cod. Depending on traffic conditions, the 11-mile drive to Cape Cod via Route 6 and over the Sagamore Bridge can take about 20 minutes.
What’s Wareham Known For?
Thanks to Wareham’s 54 miles of coastline, the community is known for supporting an active tourism industry revolving around sailing, boating, and beachgoing. In 2020, Wareham promoted a new slogan, It’s Better Before the Bridges, as part of a marketing campaign to highlight its appeal as a tourist destination in its own right.
Wareham residents don’t have to travel far to enjoy the amenities this welcoming community offers. Ranking high on the list are the host of beaches situated along Buzzards Bay, including Briarwood Beach, Minot Forest Beach, Little Harbor Beach, Onset Beach, Point Independence Beach, Shell Point Beach, and Swifts Beach.

Wareham has been a center for cranberry growing since the late 1800s. The community’s lowlands created the ideal setting for cranberry bogs, transforming Wareham into a major producer of cranberries.
The A.D. Makepeace Company was one of the founder’s of Ocean’s Spray and is headquarted in Wareham. As a matter of fact, the A.D. Makepeace Company is the largest cranberry grower in the world as well as the largest private property owner in eastern Massachusetts.

Wareham has its own public school system. Wareham Public Schools consists of Wareham High School, Wareham Middle School, and Wareham Elementary School.
