Are you interested in becoming a real estate agent in Massachusetts? A great career for someone interested in having the freedom and flexibility to set their own path, schedule and income, here’s what you need to know to get started on your real estate career.
Massachusetts requires 40 hours of real estate education, successful completion of licensing exams, and finding a broker with which to hang your license to become a practicing real estate salesperson. You can find a list of authorized real estate schools at Mass.gov.
A great option for the education is the Jack Conway School of Real Estate (CSRE), an option authorized by the Board of Registration of Real Estate Brokers and Salespersons. There are many Real Estate Schools in Massachusetts where aspiring agents can fulfill the 40-hour requirement with varying timelines and schedules. The CRSE’s pre-licensing courses train you over the span of five weeks.
While every real estate school is different, CSRE offers a choice between in-person and online courses. The classes are run by real estate professionals with years of experience in the field. Through informative and well-run classes, participants learn all they need to know to pass the state licensing exam.
At Jack Conway School of Real Estate, the instructors are practicing brokers and attorneys who draw on timely, real-life situations to illustrate the material in a fast-paced learning environment.
Classes run on Tuesdays and Thursdays for five straight weeks. There are both day and night sessions available, and classes are four hours long. For the 40-hour course, CSRE tuition is currently $199 including textbooks in electronic form with registration.
Open to all people looking to obtain a real estate license, there is no obligation to join Jack Conway by taking the company’s pre-licensing course, but you do gain the benefit of taking the course from those practicing in the field. Another benefit of CSRE is that students may retake the course for review at no charge if they do not pass the Massachusetts state licensing exam on their first attempt, as long as the test is taken within 120 days of completing the course.
Information on taking the Massachusetts state licensing exam is available at Mass.gov. There, you can apply for, renew, or reactivate a license. To take the exam, you have to schedule it with PSI Services, as the Commonwealth of Massachusetts has retained their services to develop and administer its real estate program. The cost for a Salesperson candidate is $85. You can schedule your licensing exam on the PSI website. You will then report to one of the examination center locations for your exam on the scheduled date.
Once you have taken the course and successfully obtained your license you will need to find a brokerage with which to practice. Luckily in Massachusetts you have an optimal number of options to choose from. There are brick and mortar storefronts and virtual firms, there are large national chains all the way to small one-office local companies. Jack Conway harnesses the best of all of these by being locally owned and operated with offices across Eastern Massachusetts each with designated local managers, but also large enough to have national recognition and international affiliations.
When it comes to finding the right brokerage, you’ll want to do your research. Look at companies near you and review their website’s career page. At Jack Conway we offer you the opportunity to learn, practice, and grow. With our license school, education and training programs, in-house marketing, and more, we are the perfect place to build your real estate career from beginning to any heights you choose to set for yourself.
