Greater Boston Golfing
The Greater Boston area is a golfer’s paradise. Golfers can choose from public and private courses for a perfect day on the fairways.
Private Golf Clubs:
- Sharon Country Club, a private country club, provides its members, families, and guests with an extraordinary facility for golf, socializing, and entertaining.
- Norfolk Golf Club in Westwood. Founded in. 1896, Norfolk is recognized as one of the best nine hole golf courses in North America in the book The Finest Nines by Anthony Pioppi.
- Walpole Country Club. Founded in 1927, Walpole Country Club is one of the finest private 18 hole championship layouts in the Greater Boston area with a reputation for outstanding golf course conditions, an active membership and a variety of social activities.
Public Courses:
- Ponkapoag Golf Course. A 36-hole facility in Canton, MA. It features a putting green, driving range, snack bar, pro shop, and power carts. Lessons are also available for beginners. During the winter the course is open to cross-country skiing.
- Brookmeadow Country Club in Canton offers a championship 18-hole public golf course. Conveniently located just 30 minutes from Boston and 45 minutes from Providence, Brookmeadow is the ideal location for golf leagues, tournaments and company outings.
- Norwood Country Club. Designed by Sam Mitchell, built by Frank Simoni and opened in 1975, Norwood Country Club is one of the best kept golf secrets in the area. This 18-hole golf course and lighted driving range is conveniently located on Route 1
- Easton Country Club. Nestled in the town of Easton located in southeastern Massachusetts, Easton Country Club offers a friendly, relaxed 18-hole, golf experience enjoyed by both members and non-members alike.
Greater Boston Hiking
Hikers and walkers can choose from a wide selection of conservation areas and wildlife sanctuaries, throughout Greater Boston. Four Mass Audubon properties to explore are:
- Massapoag Trail: Sharon. This 5.4-mile out-and-back trail is generally considered a moderately challenging route. It takes an average of 1 h 47 min to complete. This is a popular trail for hiking, running, and walking, but you can still enjoy some solitude during quieter times of day.
- Borderland State Park: North Easton. Borderland State Park features a historic mansion open for tours. This park also features trails for hiking, biking, or horseback riding, fishing and boating in the pond, and facilities for tennis and disc golf.
- Adams Farm: Walpole. Adams Farm has an extensive network of trails that are well-marked. The total distance of trails in the network is estimated to be about 10 miles. The Adams Farm property includes approximately 365 acres of town-owned land, additional acreage held in adjacent land conservation trusts, and land owned by the New England Forestry Foundation and the Norfolk County Agricultural School, for a total of over 700 acres open to the public for low-impact recreation.
- Rocky Woods: Medfield. With six and a half miles of trails winding through 491 acres of varied terrain, Rocky Woods is a year-round destination for outdoor lovers and a prized habitat for songbirds, bullfrogs, beavers, and painted turtles. Rocky Woods has one foot within the Charles River watershed and the other foot within the drainage of the Neponset River.
Greater Boston Skiing
No need to drive north in the winter to enjoy cross country skiing under a crystalline blue sky. Greater Boston parks and forests offer cross country skiing on trails that wind through forests and snow-covered meadows.

Greater Boston Fishing
Greater Boston is studded with ponds and lakes that are stocked with trout. There’s also the Atlantic coastline with plenty of places to go fishing from the shoreline or on the water.
