Cape Cod is a peninsula jutting out from the southern coast of Massachusetts, which provides some of the most scenic oceanfront vistas in the state. The area extends eastward about 35 miles and then curves northwestward some 32 miles to Provincetown at its tip. Beautiful Cape Cod Bay is located within this curving arm, and the area includes 15 towns and two islands. The Cape is separated from the mainland by the Cape Cod Canal, which runs from Cape Cod Bay to Buzzards Bay. It faces the open ocean on the east and Nantucket Sound on the south.

The Cape’s panoramic Atlantic shoreline fringes neighborhoods of weathered Colonial and antique houses and sprawling new mansions. The area is home to artists’ colonies, summer theaters, gift shops, and numerous golf courses, water sports and sight-seeing cruises and trolleys. Daily ferries shuttle visitors and residents to and from the islands for day trips and vacation stays.
