Where Is Marshfield Located?
Marshfield is a South Shore town that borders Scituate on the north and Duxbury on the south. Marshfield has a coastline along the Atlantic Ocean.
Route 3A is a major north-south corridor in Marshfield. Route 3 slices through just two corners of the town on its western boundary and provides the fastest route to Boston about 30 miles north. Route 3 also is the fastest route between Marshfield and Cape Cod. The Sagamore Bridge is about 25 miles south of Marshfield.
What’s Marshfield Known For?
Marshfield residents can enjoy eight beaches along the community’s five miles of public shoreline. From north to south, those eight beaches are Rexhame Beach, Fieldston Beach, Sunrise Beach, Ocean Bluff Beach, Brant Rock Beach, Blue Fish Cove, Blackman’s Point, and Green Harbor Beach.
Marshfield is also known as the site of the Marshfield Fair, which the Marshfield Agricultural and Horticultural Society has held since 1867. One of the biggest country fairs in the Boston area, the Marshfield Fair takes place every summer over three days at the 62-acre Marshfield Fairgrounds. In true country fair tradition, the Marshfield Fair features live entertainment, a midway with rides, agricultural displays and demonstrations, a flower show, and 4-H exhibits.

Marshfield residents live in one of eight villages, depending on location. They are: Brant Rock, Fieldston, Green Harbor, Marshfield Center, Marshfield Hills, North Marshfield, Ocean Bluff, and Rexhame.
Marshfield has its own public school district that serves an enrollment of about 3,800 students. Marshfield Public Schools consists of five elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school.
Marshfield’s five elementary schools are Daniel Webster Elementary School, Eames Way Elementary School, Governor Winslow Elementary School, Martinson Elementary School, and South River Elementary School. Marshfield’s middle school is Furnace Brook Middle School and the high school is Marshfield High School.
Marshfield offers its residents an extensive recreation program that includes year-round indoor and outdoor activities for youth and adults. Marshfield recreational programs for children include soccer, field hockey, hiking, physical fitness, track, wrestling, and sailing. Marshfield Recreation also features a community garden and greenhouse, beach volleyball courts, and canoe and kayak rentals at Peter Igo Park.
The Marshfield Farmer’s Market is held year-round at the Marshfield Fairgrounds. The summer market is open June through September every Friday from 2 to 6 PM. Winter markets take place on the third Saturday of each month from October to May from 10 AM to 1 PM.
Although Marshfield is a Boston suburb, the town has plenty of open land that gives the community a countryside, rural feel. Marshfield residents can experience nature at two Mass Audubon wildlife sanctuaries, Daniel Webster Wildlife Sanctuary and North River Wildlife Sanctuary. The Daniel Webster Wildlife Sanctuary offers miles of wide trails and boardwalks through meadows, woodlands, and wetlands. North River Wildlife Sanctuary includes part of the North River waterfront. Both wildlife sanctuaries are popular with birdwatchers.
Marshfield is home to two beautiful golf courses. Green Harbor Golf Club is an 18-hole public course that honors golf traditions with a walking-only course. Marshfield Country Club is an 18-hole private course designed by Wayne E. Stiles.
Marshfield residents can find a full range of shops and restaurants in the community. Webster Square features a Star Market, Ocean State Job Lot, Marshalls, and Home Goods, as well as salons, boutiques, and service businesses. Located across Ocean Street from Webster Square is a restaurant row that includes KKatie’s Burgers, Marshfield’s Famous Pizza, Rafferty’s Pub, and Station Eight.
Marshfield is also home to one of the South Shore’s oldest family-owned seafood restaurants. Haddad’s Ocean Cafe in Brant Rock has been dishing up clams, oysters, fish, and lobster since 1937.
